Modernity, tradition and maritime progress converge at Malaga´s Palace of Congresses and Exhibitions. The Palace of Congresses and Exhibitions becomes a symbol for the city. A bold design, expression of contemporary stage, combines in its image maritime tradition and the idea of modernity and progress of the XXI Century’s Malaga.
Its strategic location, next to A-7, one of the main roads into the Capital gives it a privileged position, and it´s infrastructure makes it suitable for all kinds of events. With this Malaga strengthens its capital structure over Costa del Sol´s urbanization, centralizing it´s economical, social and cultural development flow.
The building was designed as a multipurpose hall to conduct commercial activities and conduct businesses. With a constructed area of 60,000 m2, it has two different areas. The first one is on one floor and it´s completely dedicated to exhibitions, conferences and catering. A second space, identified as a large ship, appears strong both in appearance and proportions; it has seven floors of external and management offices.
With a rich, formal architecture that provides an enormous expression capacity, it is able to adapt to various activities that may take place. The main facade is heading south and it is protected by an undulating canopy completely covered by a braided stainless steel mesh. From the entrance you can see a semicircular shape that adds a touch of color to the glass and titanium façade.
In the interior, marble and wood are dominant materials. Marble paves general distribution hall, lobby access, exhibition halls, central courtyard, as well as compositional elements of decorative murals that combine colors, textures and thicknesses. Wood covers most distinguished rooms like auditoriums, conference rooms and the main restaurant.
The building represents an urban ship whose media image is projected onto its environment; configuring it with deserved elegance for its symbolic role, being located at one of the main visual spots of a city like Ronda Oeste.
