Hotel & Gast Wien is the leading event for hoteliers, restaurant and cafe owners in the eastern region of Austria. from 3rd to 5th April, Messe Wien will host a new edition. We've been talking with the organisers of the show - Reed Messe Wien - about all the details and novelties of this exciting event full of co-located activities, new trends, products and services. Are you ready?
What makes Hotel & Gast Wien different from other events of its kind?
The HOTEL & GAST is an important platform for the hotel and catering industry, especially for the eastern region of Austria. It's timing in spring and its thematic range are tailor-made for Vienna and its neighbouring areas. The biggest difference to other events is that the trade fair focusses on kitchen technology, C+C trade, beverages, hotel facilities, convenience foods, catering, restaurant services and most of all on communal feeding.
Decision makers in the hotel, restaurant, bar, club and coffee house sectors particularly appreciate the compact, high density of existing and potential suppliers and associates – right next to each other! Furthermore, managers and other users of services greatly value the atmosphere of hard work and concentration at the HOTEL & GAST, a nevertheless wonderfully relaxed event.
Can you reveal us some of the novelties we will find at Hotel & Gast Wien 2016?
There are numerous highlights and novelties, but most fun of all sure is the fourth qualification “Battle of the Young Chefs” that we will be hosting. This is the toughest and most challenging cooking competition in Austria. There will be a total of five qualification rounds and at the grand final in September 2016 the title of “Austrian Young Chefs Champion 2016” will then be awarded. It’s all about discovering talent. The jury is to be made up of five recognized chefs and the participants are expected to compete along the lines of the international WACS.
Why do you decide to celebrate the event during Spring?
This is the ideal time before the tourist season starts in the Vienna region and the perfect time for placing needed investments.
Hotel & Gast Wien attracts many national and international exhibitors. Can you give some tips for those exhibiting in Wien for the first time?
- Best tip for first-time exhibitors probably is our Reed Starter package, which you can find on the official site of the show, with super deals included - The new REED STARTER package is valid for all first-time registrations received from 01.10.2014 – for all companies that fulfil the criteria and as long as space is available. REED STARTER packages do not apply to events held for the first time, and all applications for REED STARTER status must be submitted with the completed registration forms.

During the show we can enjoy about several attractive side events, can you explain more about it, or recommend and activity in particular?
That would be the Vienna Coffee Convent, a unique experience for coffee connoisseurs, baristas and the entire restaurant, bar and catering sector. Exhibitors show off the latest trends and developments in coffee and coffee house culture.
The central benefit is the opportunity for experts from many countries to:
- Discuss their experiences within the coffee-related segments within an international framework
- Test new products and technologies
- Gather ideas and make sure you are a step ahead of the rest in terms of knowledge about all the latest beans, machines and blends – and become a coffee trendsetter for your guests.
